Indian Classical Music& Yoga
summer RETREAT
DHRUPAD SINGING - BANSURI FLUTE- Tabla - YOGA
Pilion - Greece 27 July/02 august 2023
It is about finding the music naturally within you.
It is about learning how to listen carefully and to fine tune yourself.
It is about learning how to speak music just like a language.
Surrounded and inspired by wild nature and a breathtaking sea view
We believe that to study Indian classical music, it is essential to be in silence and surrounded by nature. All things and beings in the universe are connected with each other, visibly or invisibly, and through vibrations a communication is established between them on all the planes of existence.
To enter the world of Dhrupad inevitably we come in touch with the subtle world of vibrations, of harmony and dialogue.
It is our wish to bring you close to this experience of sound merged into nature.
This is why we choose to do a Retreat in a secluded land inside the wild forest of Pelion Mountain.
Early morning Nada Yoga (Karaj practice), Dhrupad singing classes, instrument Raga classes, Tabla classes, rhythm and Tala classes will be supported with daily hatha yoga practice for stretching and relaxing the body. Organic & home grown food, peaceful spots in the forest for self-practice and relaxation, community camp, re-connection with the natural rhythms and the beautiful world that surrounds us.
Enjoy the outdoors and wilderness, deepen your practice, rest, meditate and get inspired in your art. Immerse in Nature, hike in the wild forest, swim in the beautiful Aegean sea, gaze the stars in a wild unspoiled environment with zero light, sound and air pollution. Live in community, eat and explore together and find sufficient time and space to stay with yourself, meditate, and dive into self-practice.
Three teachers will be guiding the students in all the aspects of Indian classical music, together with hatha yoga classes for stretching and relaxing the body after many hours of sitting.

ABOUT The teachers
Virginia and Igino studied Dhrupad in India under the guidance of the masters Gundecha Brothers, world leaders of the Dhrupad style. They study bansuri flute with Pandit Rajendra Prasanna. They perform internationally in several classical and innovative musical projects and have been teaching Indian classical music worldwide for over 10 years.
By combining their knowledge of the Indian system of oral tradition and western pedagogy, they have created a unique way of teaching, making this music more accessible and comprehensive.
Yannis Zannis studied in India for more than 10 years, developing all the four different aspects of traditional Tabla playing: accompanying vocal, instrumental, kathak dance and playing Tabla solo.
Yannis teaches and performs around the world, as a soloist and accompanist in several collaborations of Indian and contemporary music.
Together with the studies on Indian Classical Music, he started the practice of yoga since 2002, learning Asthanga vinyasa yoga and Buddhist meditation in Crete, from a dedicated renunciate yogi. In the following years he got guidance from several Asthanga teachers and practitioners in Greece and in India. Gradually he chose to surrender himself for several years to the ascetic practice of yoga by living in the nature, following a daily self-practice routine, keeping a sattvic diet, studying the scriptures and the philosophy of yoga.

ABOUT THE PLACE
Pilio Mountain- Greece
Inside an old-growth wild forest, located in the south-east side of Pelion mountain, viewing the Aegean sea from the altitude of 400m, lies our retreat forest land. The nearest village, Neohori, is 5km away on a dust road and the closest city, Volos, is around 45km far.
The music and yoga classes will take place outdoors at our 70m wooden floor shelter. Opposite is the camping area where the participants will put their tents. There are prepared spots for tents under the trees, a summer open kitchen for common use, showers and vegetable gardens.
The houses inside the land are built with natural materials like wood, straw, cob and stones. The water comes from a forest spring and the electricity from solar panels. There is not WiFi and the electricity supply is enough only for the basic small lights for the night and devices charging. A unique place inside the nature, peaceful and isolated, with very basic amenities, ideal for music and yoga practice, detachment from city habits and rejuvenation.

"Experience could not be more complete: musically and personally. I've been brought to a new understanding of the sound such as of my inner self in the true meaning of Nada Yoga. Virginia and Igino kindly carried me a step further in my path, offering new instruments and tools to open up my vision. All surrounded by an epic and magic environment like Tignale “ Emilio "My experience with Samvad was deep and inspiring. The space is cozy and the environment of nature is amazing, like a small paradise. Virginia is my Dhrupad teacher and I have been introduced to e deep inner space through the beauty of this ancient sound. She is a great teacher and I could feel that the sound is her life. Definitely, for those who want to go deep and discover this Sacred Music is the right place to visit.Looking forward to be there again.” Radha |
" I was very glad I took the opportunity to visit Igino and Virginia at their residence on the lake. It is a beautiful and tranquil place near Lago di Garda that has a very conducive energy for studying. I had taken several Skype lessons with them before but being there in person it made a more complete learning experience. I got a lot out of those few days I was there and I highly recommend it to anyone who is serious about deepening their understanding of indian classical music and in particular of bansuri playing.” Shastro |
