Samvad & Conductus Ensemble
The project started from the encounter between the Samvad duo, devoted to classical Indian tradition of Dhrupad and Marcello Fera musician engaged for years in musical projects intersecting different genres of music while founding and leading the Conductus string ensemble.
Samvad consists in Igino Brunori and Virginia Nicoli and often hosts other specialists of the genre, in this case Ciro Montanari, committed to Tabla in the double role of soloist and accompanist.
In Dhrupad genre the improvisational aspect plays a central role and the repertoire of Samvad includes both traditional songs and original compositions. These features enabled the meeting with the writing of Marcello Fera in order to build musical structures capable of representing Dhrupad forms of music in a new dimension while being respectful of the original material. A writing that is the result of a collaborative process in which ideas of Samvad blend with the features of the compositional style of Fera. The result goes beyond the simple concept of fusion between East and West but aims at performing a unique artistic experience.
The sounds of the saxophone and the flute played by Brunori and Nicoli, alternated by the bansuri and the dhrupad singing create a magical connection with the string quintet, whose sound alternates choral compactness, incisive rhythmic presence and contrapuntal designs.
